FVV // science for a moving society (formerly Forschungsvereinigung Verbrennungskraftmaschinen e.V.)
We have been actively participating in diverse FVV’s research projects for many years, and we are a committed partner of FVV’s turbomachines planning group as well, aiming at common pre-competitive research.
Due to our focus on crash simulation, we have been leading FVV’s research project FVV0936 concerning containment safety as its chairman. Our customers benefit from its results and the related gains in know-how as they feed directly into our services. For instance, we incorporate the specific findings concerning highly dynamic loading of cast materials at different temperatures into the material descriptions of our simulation models.
BAM, Germany’s federal institute for materials research and testing, is our contact when it comes to materials and their testing, in particular concerning the characterization of non-linear and highly dynamic material behaviour. In the context of FVV’s research project in containment simulation, we established a close exchange of knowledge and know-how in the field of material description, especially in short-time loading. As we continue cooperating in further research project of FVV’s, this important transfer spreads to other areas such as the consideration of service life in long-term load with LCF and HCF effects.
ProIT Services GmbH is our partner for our in-house hardware and software. This comprises for one thing our cluster and our server as well as our PCs and workstations, and for another thing the batch environment of the control system for the simulation runs. ProIT also provides the protected customer portal on our web-server that allows for a secured exchange of data and information between our customers and us.
DYNAmore is our software supplier and expert partner in CAE simulation using the program LS-Dyna of Ansys as well as further related software tools. We profit form DYNAmore’s seminars for constant further training as well as for the exchange of experience and of the know-how specific to crash simulation. We regularly attend their conferences and forums, as exhibitors, as participants and as lectures presenting our own papers.
Concerning pre- and postprocessing, Altair Engineering Inc. is our most important partner as well as our supplier of their multifunctional software product HyperWorks and its supplementary tools. In addition, Altair is our partner when using RADIOSS as an alternative crash code or applying further programs for product optimization. We benefit from Altair’s advanced training courses for our continuing education, and we often attend their conferences for professional exchange.
